Eco Tour to Munyon Island

One of the Palm Beach's best kept secrets is Munyon Island, a beautifully restored island which is under the watchful eye of the county's only state park, John D. MacArthur Beach State Park.

The early Seminole Indians called this island “Nuctsachoo” or Pelican Island. It was later named for the flamboyant James Munyon, who built a five-story hotel on the island’s south shore. The hotel Hygeia burned to the ground in 1917 and the island remained mostly uninhabited until a major restoration project was started by Palm Beach County in 1992.  With the planting of over 30,000 mangrove trees, paddling through the winding trails is truly a testament to the incredible work that was done on this tropical island.

Our tour begins with an introduction to the area. After being issued a lifejacket and paddle, your guides will conduct "Paddling 101!"  Then you're ready to hit the water for a pleasurable paddle through the serene, shallow waters.  We'll head to the northern tip of the island and perhaps take a short swimming break on a sandy white beach, then onward through the winding mangrove trails!

Kayaking can be enjoyed by all ages. No previous experience is necessary to fully participate. The only requirement is that you know how to swim! After all, kayaking is a wet sport. Be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen and a sense of adventure!
